Goodman Fielder Bacon Slicing Factory

Objectives

The Frankton Meats bacon slicing factory processes 2,850 tonnes of Bacon annually on four production lines. TEG were commissioned to project manage the automation solution and rationalise production in the raw slicing department. The solution involved new robotic loading into a thermo-former and consolidating 90% of products onto a single high speed line. Total project value was $ 2.0m.

Challenges

Automation of the production line put pressure on the entire cold chain operation and TEG undertook a process review to improve product handling with improved levels of efficiency.

Results

The project was delivered on time, on budget and achieved the requested benefits. A 22 FTE reduction in head count was achieved and as a result the manufacturing cost dropped significantly. The layout of the production space was much improved allowing better product flow
